Personal History and Interests

Carol Olson, MD was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. She attended Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania for her undergraduate education and completed medical school at Stanford University. Dr. Olson completed two psychiatry residency programs- one at University of California San Diego School of Medicine and the second at Maricopa Medical Center (now Valleywise Health) in Phoenix.

Dr. Olson has spent her career practicing psychiatry at Valleywise Health, and since 2004, she has held the position of District Medical Group (DMG) Chair of Psychiatry. She is double board certified in general psychiatry and forensic psychiatry. Her interests include treatment of serious mental illness and the intersection between mental health and the criminal justice system.

Dr. Olson lives in Scottsdale with her husband and has an adult son. Her interests outside work include gardening, cooking, public affairs, travel, and playing a mean game of Trivial Pursuit.
