New Academic Affiliation For Health Education
August 24, 2017
The board of District Medical Group unanimously voted to create a new partnership between DMG, Dignity Health & St. Joseph’s Hospital, Maricopa Integrated Health System and Creighton University.
The Creighton University Arizona Health Education Alliance will foster current health education programs offered by MIHS, DMG, Dignity Health and Creighton University in Phoenix. The alliance also will develop new education programs in medicine (Undergraduate and Graduate) and related health fields.
MIHS and St. Joseph’s have more than 400 residents who will be part of the new program starting July 1, 2018.
As you know, DMG is a leader in physician training at MIHS for more than 25 years, training more than 400 physicians annually. Our strong teaching mission and committed faculty will accelerate our ability to fulfill our core mission of teaching and providing key leadership at Creighton School of Medicine in Phoenix.
This new alliance will foster expansion of health professions education that none of the partners could independently support:
- Provide new subspecialty training programs (such as fellowships).
- Offer strong integrated programs that span multiple care environments.
- Increase health professionals who will train and practice in Arizona, serving Maricopa County and the rest of the state.
- Offer diverse inter-professional education across the continuum.
DMG has a long and proud history of leadership in training physicians and with this affiliation, we have the opportunity to train the physician of the future and address the workforce needs of Arizona.
